Cheshire East Council failed to clean up the Alderley Edge War Memorial once again this year, much to the disappointment of the Parish Council.
Cllr Mary Maczkowiak and her sister spent an hour and a half cleaning up the cenotaph ahead of last weekend's Remembrance Day parade and service because CEC had not done so, despite requests from the Parish Council.
Mary Maczkowiak said "I am absolutely disgusted that every single year for the last 11 years we have had to chase them and they haven't done the work. It is their responsibility."
Cllr Matthew Lloyd, Chairman of Alderley Edge Parish Council, responded "I absolutely agree, it is atrocious."
Cllr Melanie Connor told her colleagues that in Sandbach, where the Council's offices are located, "Cheshire East Council swept it and cleaned it, it looked wonderful - you could have eaten off the floor".
The Parish Council agreed to support Cllr Mary Maczkowiak who will write to Cheshire East Council and make a complaint on behalf of The Royal British Legion.

I am sure that if Alderley Edge Parish Council put in a funding application to the War Memorial Trust and agreed to match fund then their memorial could be cleaned in time for the centenary of the outbreak of World War 1.
I am a Sandbach Town Councillor and Cheshire East Councillor. In this instance I think the criticism of Cheshire East Council as being biased in favour of Sandbach is unfair.
