Expect delays as Wilmslow bypass is resurfaced

Drivers are expected to experience delays next week as a section of the A34 Wilmslow bypass will be closed for resurfacing.

Cheshire East Highways will be carrying out works on the A34, from its junction with Dean Row Road to the Hill Bank roundabout, from Sunday 4th August through to Monday 12th August.

During the works a 20mph speed restriction will be in place.

Below is the programme of works which we have received from Cheshire East Council.

• Sunday 4th August

The northbound carriageway will be closed to traffic from 7am to 6pm and traffic will be diverted onto the A555, B5358 Wilmslow Road/Manchester Road onto A538 Bollin Walk. The southbound carriageway will be open as usual.

• Monday 5th August

The southbound carriageway will be closed to traffic and will be diverted onto the A555, B5358 Wimslow Road/Manchester Road onto A538 Bollin Walk. The northbound carriageway will be open as usual.

• Tuesday 6th August

Northbound and southbound lanes will be closed (not at the same time) for a 24 hour sweep to be undertaken. The works will be carried out under convoy working and speed restrictions will be in place between 9:30am and 3:30pm.

• Wednesday 7th August

Northbound and southbound lanes will be closed (not at the same time) for the 48 hour sweep to be undertaken. The works will be carried out under convoy working and speed restrictions between 9:30am and 3:30pm.

• Sunday 11th August

Northbound carriageway will be closed to traffic from 7am to 6pm, for the 7 day sweep to be undertaken and the reinstatement of the white lining and road studs. The southbound carriageway will be open as usual.

• Monday 12th August

Southbound carriageway will be closed to traffic from 7am to 6pm, for the 7 day sweep to be undertaken and the reinstatement of the white lining and road studs. The northbound carriageway will be open as usual.

Wayne Ashdown, Network Intelligence Team Leader at CEC, said "The surface dressing operation is weather dependant, so if it rains the operation will be postponed and moved to the first available date."
