People from around the village joined together at Alderley Edge Methodist Church for the annual Civic Service on Sunday, 7th July.

Unusually the service was held at Alderley Edge Methodist Church this year, as part of their 150th anniversary celebrations. Celebrating the achievements and actions of the village, the service was led by Rev Ben Clowes who was assisted by Rev Jane Parry.

Rev Ben Clowes said "Of the 200 attendees to the service, people from all walks of life from across our village and the surrounding areas were joined by Cllr Dorothy Flude, Mayor of Cheshire East and her consort to give thanks for our village and to ask God's blessing upon it for the coming year.

"This year pupils from Alderley Edge Community Primary School Choir beautifully presented two musical items and Mr Michael Scaife shared a history item, taking us back to 1863, the year the church was opened."

Rev Clowes preached on how this is our time as a village, through times of difficulty, to move forward with humility and sacrifice, to become an even better place, whilst Rev Jane Parry led the congregation in prayers for those in need and Mr Kevin Hanrahan (St Pius X) led prayers for the community.

Rev Ben Clowes added "What a fantastic way to continue our year of celebrations. Thank you to Alderley Edge Parish Council for sharing in this special year."
