A school caretaker was hit by a car today, though thankfully not hurt, whilst trying to help children across Wilmslow Road.
The pedestrian crossing outside Alderley Edge School for Girls is still out of action and the introduction of temporary lights is causing traffic chaos in the village.
It is now two weeks since the lights at the crossing stopped working, since then two caretakers from the girl's school have been helping children cross the road both in the mornings and after school.
On Friday, 15th March, engineers were on site but they did not manage to fix the lights so temporary traffic lights were installed which caused huge tailbacks in both directions today and left very little time for children to cross the road between light changes.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West, said: "A street light and a pedestrian crossing on London Road in Alderley Edge have not been in operation due to a possible cable fault. We have been working in partnership with Cheshire East Council to restore the lights as quickly as possible and our engineers are currently on site repairing the fault.
"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
The crossing remains out of order today, despite the fact that Electricity North West have informed the school that they have repaired the fault and that they have informed the Council - because, accordng the school, the Council says they have not received confirmation from the utility company.
Sue Goff, Head teacher at AESG "The electrical people swear blind it is all done, finished and completed and they've told the Council. The Council swear blind they haven't been told and won't turn the lights on.
"As a result it's even more dangerous today and in fact Eddie one of our caretakers got hit by a car. Fortunately he wasn't hurt but it just caught him today because they were trying to jump the lights."
Mrs Goff added "It's even harder to get the girls across today because of the temporary traffic lights so we don't know how we are going to solve this.
"The Council say they know nothing about it, the electrical people say they've told them so we are at a complete impasse."
I have contacted both Cheshire East Council and Electricity North West for comment.
Updated: 18th March 9.44pm.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West, said "The fault has been repaired and we're on site tomorrow to remove the temporary lights and then Cheshire East Council will switch on the lights.
"We are working in partnership with Cheshire East Council and they are aware of the plan of action to ensure the lights are back on as quickly as possible."

I didn't get the reg number unfortunately.
I know people have to get from A to B but what if they had hit a child. Shameful.
Electricity Company = EPIC FAIL
Council = EPIC FAIL
Driver = EPIC FAIL, should receive at least 6 penalty points
At the very least the council should have posted a lollipop person at the lights.
Typical mess up by the overpaid powers that be!
A wise boss once told me "get all the liars in the same room".
Is there no able manager in this sad scenario of incompetence who can bang heads together? I despair!
