Talented pianist and oboist to perform lunchtime concert

The next lunchtime concert at Alderley Edge Methodist Church takes place on Wednesday, 20th February, and features Laura Cosgrove on the oboe, accompanied by Russell Lomas on piano.

After graduating from Manchester University in 2009, Laura Cosgrove continued her studies with Jonathan Small and Hugh McKenna at the Royal Northern College of Music. In her two years at the RNCM, Laura was principal oboe in all the RNCM Orchestras.

Laura graduated with a Master of Music Degree in Solo performance in July 2011, and was also awarded the June Emerson prize. She is now giving solo and chamber music recitals whilst also pursuing an orchestral and teaching career.

Russell Lomas won a scholarship to study with Gordon Green, Clifton Helliwell and Franz Reizenstein at the Royal Manchester College of Music when he was fifteen. He graduated with a Distinction in both Performers and Teachers Diplomas and was awarded the Ricordi Prize for Accompaniment.

Until his retirement in 2003, he was a member of the Music Department of Chetham's School of Music in Manchester for over thirty years, and Head of Accompaniment for the final twelve. He was the only accompanist to appear on at least one televised programme in every series of the BBC TV Young Musician of the Year competition between 1978 (the year of the first competition) and 2004.

The programme will include: Weber: Concertino in C, Britten: Temporal Variations, Harty: Three Miniatures and Dvoƙák: Largo by.

The recital commences at 1.00 pm and will last approximately 45 minutes. Admission is by programme at the door, priced £4.00.

Light lunches, charged separately, are available from 12 noon.

The month's concert is raising money for Booth Centre in Manchester.
