Alderley District Scout Band have been crowned National Champions in the Greater Manchester Marching Band Championships.
Our local scout band competed against four other top marching bands from across the UK on Sunday, 7th October. During the day long competition they were judged on a musical and a marching discipline and at the end of a gruelling competition Alderley District Scout Band received the top award and were named the 2012 National Champions.
During the award ceremony the band were given rapturous applause. Band Master, Simon Taylor, and all the band members were absolutely delighted with the award.
Steve French said "It's been a difficult few years trying to rebuild the band after our many senior members left for university. So it was really delightful to see, and be part of, the standing ovation that the band was given during the middle of their performance.
"It was even more delightful to see their smiling faces when they were awarded the winner's trophy, particularly the young members who have never experienced such a thing before, I hope that they will take those experiences back to their friends and hopefully encourage others to join the band."
Steve added "They were competing against former champions from previous years so the task of winning was not an easy one, one thing really noticeable is the teamwork and mutual support the band give to each other. A real winning team."
