Talented harpist to perform at lunchtime concert

Alderley Edge Methodist Church will be welcoming talented harpist Alice Kirwan to perform at this month's Lunchtime Concert.

Alice Kirwan has recently graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a first class honours degree and is now continuing her studies on the postgraduate course.

Since moving to Manchester, Alice has performed at St Ann's Church, Oldham Art Gallery and for Ardudwy and Harlech Music Society. Alice has also played with many of the RNCM ensembles, including the Symphony Orchestra at The Bridgewater Hall, the RNCM New Ensemble at BBC Media City Studios and more recently she was chosen to play with the RNCM Sinfonia – resident orchestra at the Cantiere Internazionale D'Arte in Montepulciano, Italy.

Alice is an active member of the RNCM Harp ensemble who have performed new works by Catherine Kontz at the National History Museum. The group have also performed in a John Cage project at the Baltic Art Gallery, where Alice was chosen to play the solo in the piece In a Landscape. In November 2008 Alice was honoured to play for Prince Charles in a choir of sixty harps at the Royal Opera House in London to mark his 60th Birthday celebrations.

Jean Walker said "This is only the second time in 8 years that we have had a harpist to perform at the concerts, and it promises to be an exciting recital."

The concert programme will feature: Anthoine Francisque Trans Marcel Grandjany: 'Pavane et Bransles' from Le Trésor d'Orphée, Benjamin Britten: 'Interlude' from A Ceremony of Carols, Mikhail Glinka: Nocturne, Marcel Grandjany: Children's Hour Suite Op 25, Marcel Tournier: Berceuse Russe and John Weinzweig: 15 Solo Pieces for Harp, Shadows and Quarks.

Some of the proceeds from the concert will be donated to The Park School Sports Project.

The Alderley Edge Methodist Church Lunchtime Concert will take place on Wednesday 17th October at 1pm. Admission is by programme at the door, priced £4.00, and light lunches, charged separately, are available from 12 noon.
