Wilmslow Road will be closed to southbound traffic only from its junction with the A34 Alderley Edge bypass (Melrose Way) roundabout to the junction with Brook Lane next week.

The closure is to enable Cheshire East Highways to carry out essential carriageway resurfacing works.

It is anticipated that the works will be carried out from Tuesday, 21st August, until Friday 24th August between the hours of 7.30am and 4pm.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times as will vehicular access for emergency vehicles and residents.

If you have any enquiries relating to the works please contact John Hannan at Cheshire East Highways on telephone number 03001235020.

Does this resurfacing involve dumping gravel which is then left to pool on the left hand side of the road? That is what has happened on the other side of the roundabout and is now a potentially fatal hazard for cyclists.

This would seem to be a perfect opportunity to mark out proper cycle lanes, but I will not hold my breath! As James says, the pooling of gravel on Alderley Road (Wilmslow) is extremely hazardous to cyclists, such as myself; the same can be said of the half-hearted efforts to provide cycling lanes generally, in this area.
