An Alderley Edge resident is preparing to walk 100 miles from Penrith to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Geoff Davies-Palin, 50, from Gail Close aims to complete the trek whilst carrying a rucksack weighing approximately 100 lbs.
He will set off on Saturday 25th August about 4pm and aims to finish sometime between 8am and 4pm on Monday 27th.
The father of three said "I hope to complete it within a 48 hour window so apart from the odd short break it will be almost non stop.
I am doing this to raise money for the GEM Appeal. I made a pledge to raise £1000 at last year's charity snow ball and this is me fufilling that. Training is going well at the moment and I am now intensifying it."
The GEM Appeal, launched in 1994, carries out research into, and the treatment of, rare life threatening genetic and metabolic disorders in children.
Geoff can usually be seen walking through the village and along the bypass most evenings.
He added "I have a JustGiving address which will be the only way people can make a pledge for this challenge and any amount, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated."
