With only five days to go, the final preparations are being made for the Alderley Edge Big Picnic Lunch and organisers have their fingers crossed that the warm weather holds for the weekend.

London Road will be closed on Sunday, 3rd June, when local residents are being invited to get together for one big street party to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Tables will be placed down one side of the road to make one long table, with a couple of breaks to allow for access, so residents can either bring their own picnic or take advantage of the many restaurants and shops who will be open for the day.

There are only 150 places left on the main street party table so if you would like to reserve places please email Ashley Comiskey-Dawson, or call him asap on 07435967668.

If all the tables go, then it is possible for residents to bring their own picnic table and find a space for it on the pavement. Organisers are also putting some extra tables and chairs around the stage area which will be located outside Barclays Bank.

London Road will be closed to traffic from 7am to enable the set up of chairs and tables to start from 7.30am.

Imagine FM will be broadcasting live from the village from 9am until 4pm, playing background music and co-ordinating the stage acts.

Residents are invited to arrive to begin the party from 11.30am.

Children will be entertained from midday by Dazzle the Clown and the fancy dress competition, the theme of which is the Diamond Jubilee, Britain, the Monarchy, and red white and blue, will be judged at 12.30pm.

The Toni James band will perform their first 45 minute set, singing modern and 1950's songs, from about 1pm and Dazzle the Clown will move around the tables entertaining the crowds.

Toni James will perform another set at 2.30pm and the tables and chairs will be removed from the village between 4pm and 5pm - although the road will remain closed until 9pm to enable the party to continue and the clearing up to take place.

Unfortunately the Parish Council have not been able to book a face painter for the event so if anyone would like to volunteer to do face painting on the day this would be greatly appreciated, email Ashley Comiskey-Dawson, call him on 07435967668, or email Cllr Melanie Connor.

Ashley Comiskey-Dawson said "We desperately need some more volunteers to help set up in the morning, help put all the tables away afterwards and also ensure all the litter will be removed.

Ashley added "I have had a lot of feedback from people who have already booked places on the day, and one thing I really liked is that one resident suggested bringing their own table decorations in the theme of red white and blue. If everyone could do this, it would look amazing."

Organiser Cllr Melanie Connor said "The preparations are well underway and we are getting very excited about the event, the feedback from the residents has been wonderful and supportive and we are all hoping that the weather holds out for the occasion."

More volunteers are needed to help set up and clear away. The Parish Council would also be grateful if two or three qualified first aiders could volunteer to help out at the event between 11.30am and 4.30pm. Please contact Ashley Comiskey-Dawson, see above.

Updated: 30th May

All the places available on the big street party table to be placed down London Road have now been booked. There will be some extra seating available on the day, which cannot be reserved, as benches will be placed around the stage area near Barclays Bank. All residents who haven't booked are welcome to come along and join in, although there will not be any more seating.
