Enjoy a big lunch at the Jubilee street party

Following on from Saturday's fantastic May Fair we now have a village street party to look forward to.

Plans are well underway for the 'Big Lunch Picnic' which Alderley Edge Parish Council are organising. London Road will be closed to traffic on Sunday, 3rd June, to enable a street party to take place in the centre of the village.

Hanging baskets are arriving today, the tubs will be planted this week and the bunting is staying up with some more to be added so the village will be decorated for the occasion.

Tables will be placed down one side of the road. Alderley Edge residents can reserve a table by emailing Ashley Comiskey-Dawson, or calling 07435967668. If all the tables go, then it is possible for residents to bring a picnic table and go on the pavement if there is space - though the local restaurants and shops will be bringing their trade out on to the street.

Local residents can with either bring their own picnic or take advantage of the many restaurants and shops who will be open for the day and offering Jubilee specials. Amongst the refreshments on offer from local businesses there will be beer and wine, Pimms, champagne, a BBQ and ice cream.

An all encompassing licence has been organised so the sale and consumption of alcohol will not be restricted to within the grounds of the restaurants and bars.

Entertainment will also be provided. In addition to face painting and a fancy dress competition Dazzle the Clown will be doing a magic show, both on stage and around the tables. There will also be a live band, performing old time and modern songs and an exhibition of Jubilee pictures, produced by local school children, will be on display in Costa Coffee during the event and two weeks prior to it.

If you can help in any way Cllr Melanie Connor would be delighted to hear from you.

Volunteers to help set up from 8am on the day and clear tables and chairs after 5pm would be much appreciated as would anyone who can offer a main prize for the fancy dress competition or do some face painting.

Cllr Connor said "What we want to achieve is a nice relaxed day that brings residents together so that we have a village party that celebrates the Jubilee but that also celebrates the food and drink of the village and is fun. It's not a Parish Council event, it's a village event and so we need more villagers involved."

Please note London Road will be closed from 7 am until 9 pm on Sunday, 3rd June, to enable the organisers and volunteers to set and clear away and also enable the restaurants and other businesses to get everything organised.

Alderley Edge Parish Council are organising all the paperwork and Cheshire East Council will be putting up signs next week to notify people about the road closure.

To offer your support or ideas please email Melanie Connor.
