Methodist church to host piano and trumpet recital

The next lunchtime concert at Alderley Edge Methodist Church takes place on Wednesday 18th April with a recital from Katharine Curlett and Christian Dawson.

Katharine and Christian appear by kind permission of the Royal Northern College of Music, where they are both currently studying as Final Year and Postgraduate students.

Katharine belongs to a musical family and began playing the trumpet when she was eight years old. At the age of eleven, she was awarded a place in the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain.

At sixteen, Katharine gained a place at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester where she learnt with Murray Greig and by the start of her final year she had became a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. After leaving Chetham's with a Diploma in performance with distinction, she went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. She is currently in her final year studying with Tracey Redfern and during her time at the RNCM, Katharine has had the opportunity to perform in several chamber ensembles and orchestras.

Christian has recently graduated from Trinity College of Music with a First Class Bachelor of Music Honours degree, having studied piano with Mikhail Kazakevich, Helen Yorke and Douglas Finch. He is currently undertaking his postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music with Paul Roberts.

In June 2011 Christian performed at London's Guildhall to an audience of 700, including HRH Princess Anne, Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence and HRH Prince Michael of Kent. Christian has also participated in numerous masterclasses with internationally renowned artists including Julius Drake, Nelson Goerner, and Philip Fowke. Recent performances include an appearance in the RNCM North West New Music Festival, and in June 2012, Christian will be performing at the Bridgewater Hall as part of the 'Reflections on Debussy' festival.

The varied programme includes: Jean Francaix: Sonatine, John Maxwell Geddes: Etude d'execution Transcendante, Aaron Copland: At the River, Frederic Chopin: Nocturne in C sharp minor Op 27 No 1 and Thorvald Hansen: Sonata for Cornet and Piano.

Admission is by programme, available at the door priced £3.50. The concert commences at 1pm with light lunches, charged separately, available from 12 noon.

A proportion of the proceeds will be donated to charitable organisations as part of the mission outreach of Alderley Edge Methodist Church.
