Drama on The Edge amid fears kids stuck down cave

Emergency services were called to The Edge this afternoon following reports that a male, or two males, had become trapped in a cave close to Stormy Point.

A member of the public called the fire service, using a mobile phone, informing them that one or two young lads had squeezed themselves through the railings and were stuck in the cave.

Between thirty and forty emergency staff attended the scene including fire crews, ambulance staff, paramedics, Derbyshire Cave Rescue Team and a Confined Space Unit from Liverpool.

I just happened to be up The Edge this afternoon walking with friends and was surprised to see dozens of emergency personnel and vehicles. By the time we left though the search had been called off and thankfully nobody apears to have been hurt.

Sgt Simon Mills of Wilmslow Neighbourhood Police Unit, who attended the scene, said "When emergency services arrived at the cave they had gone but there were fresh marks to tell us that somebody had been down there recently.

"The area where they had been has been unstable in the past so we had to make absolutely sure nobody was down there.

"The whole area was searched and we could tell from the footprints that they had gone so we were quite happy they had got out of the cave."
