In addition to a community street party to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June, organisers are hoping to pull together an exhibition about Alderley Edge at the time of the Queen's Coronation in 1953.

A fascinating discussion has been taking place in our forum about the shops and people remembered from the past.

Steve Marshall started the discussion Mrs Beatie's sweet shop in November and since then we have had 66 posts.

Members have shared great memories about school and village life from when they were growing up in Alderley Edge which we understand has also been read by many who have since moved away, including people now living in Hertsfordshire and as far away as Australia.

Organisers of this year's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in the village have decided to build on this discussion and hope to put together a selection of pictures and recollections about Alderley Edge at the time of the Queen's Coronation as part of this year's celebrations.

Cllr Melanie Connor, who is organising the exhibition, based on the year of the Coronation, has spoken with the Alderley History Group and a number of other local residents who are gathering information together.

Harold Smith, Chairman of the Alderley History Group, and a resident of the village for over 70 years, confirmed that the society has a collection of photographs of London Road dating from the late 1800's to1986.

He said "We have compiled a history and archive of who occupied the various premises on London Road in 1928 and 1948 to the 50's and 60's, together with lots of anecdotes about some of the shop owners and the public services fulfilled by some residents."

Graham McLelland posted in the forum to say he still has a commemorative pencil from the Coronation festivities in the park which he was given by the local council in 1953.

It is hoped that many other local residents will have items they can share from 1953 and recollections of life in Alderley Edge sixty years ago.

If you lived in the village at the time please do tell us what you did, where you lived and about the friends and businesses you remember.

If you have recollections or memorabillia of Coronation Day in Alderley Edge please do tell us about them via the comment box below.

I was 26,young professional and very sniffy about royalty, pomp and ceremony. Then I went to a concert on the eve at London's Festival Hall to hear "A Garland for the Queen" - a set of songs by modern composers to mirror one done for Elizabeth 1st - stunning!.Over 400 years of continuity beautifully expressed. I was soon out there cheering and waving my flag. Message to the Twenties - turn up on London Road; you may discover feelings you hadn't realised were there!

When I was a young girl I was a keen embroiderer. I decided to make a special gift for my mother to commemorate the coronation and so I embroidered a sampler which she had framed.
I have it on the wall in my hall and if the organisers of the exhibition would like to display it I would be happy to bring it along.
