Plans underway for Alderley Edge Christmas Fair

DSC_0506

First she brought us the Alderley Edge May Fair and now Christine Munro is putting plans together for a new Christmas event in the village.

Christine is currently organising the Alderley Edge Christmas Fair for Sunday 11th December which will see the Alderley Edge Farmer's Market come in to the village centre. She has also applied to Cheshire East Council to close West Street, as far down as the opening for the garages, so fairground rides and children's entertainment can be located there.

Christine told me "I am looking for lots of interesting stalls and entertainments to make a truly Festive event for everyone.

"Usually at all the events I organise throughout December I make my mother's recipe for mulled wine and also some mince pies and donate these to the Christie girls who sell them, raising additional funds for the hospital. I will be doing this again and hopefully will be able to make enough!!

Christine has booked the fairground and bouncy castle and producers are already contacting her to request a space in the village for the Alderley Edge Christmas Fair.

She added "The reason I decided to do it was because I was inspired by everyone's lovely comments about the May Fair and I thought why don't we try to do something similar at Christmas as well.

"Specially at Christmastime it would be lovely to bring that great community spirit back into the village again."

Email Christine Munro, or call her on 01625 251753 if you would like to get involved.

As laudable as this is, it seems to be usurping the successful Xmas Fair at Alderley Edge Cricket Club established in 2010 and presumably intended to be an ongoing event? Or is it a joint venture? Otherwise, it seems a shame for the village to be competing against itself!

I hope that the lord given his permission. I would hate to think that Christine is transgressing again. We may need stocks in London Road.

the xmas fair has clashed with the farmers produce sale (avoids using the M word ) for the last couple of years anyway . looking forward to being out in the village for the december do it feels like we're on an outing instead of being in the festival hall :-)

Wouldn't it be more of a Christmas market if it was closer to Christmas?

Santa's grotto and the children's Carol singing were amazing at Alderley Edge Cricket Club' inspiring and excellent initiative last Christmas. A true community and precious experience. It would be so sad to see so many people's hard work and endeavour at the club undermined by a copy cat event . Then again imitation is a compliment. I'm sure Christine will have consulted with the Club before duplicating a community focussed event thankfully outside the influence of " I bought a title so I'm important " ego large size Lord of whatever.

It's not a copy cat event, Christine's Farmers Market is always on the second Sunday of the month, and it has been so for the last ten years at least. Long may it continue.

Perhaps a change of name for the event would solve the apparent issue - what about Alderley Christmas Market??
