Alderley girls celebrate GCSE success

Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating another wonderful set of results for its Year 11 girls. Pass rates continue to be consistently high with girls achieving one quarter of all passes at A*, 58% of passes at A* or A and a record 84% at grades A* to B.

There was much celebrating this morning as the girls opened their envelopes and staff were as delighted as the students. Many subjects enjoyed successes including History and Biology (50% passes at A* in both), Physics and Chemistry (94% passes at A* and A), ICT (81% A* and A) and English Language (71% A* and A).

A particular success this year has been the introduction of IGCSE in Mathematics and Modern Languages which is a more demanding examination that relies totally on final examinations. 49 girls sat the maths paper and 46 took the languages one with a 96% pass rate achieved in both.

Headmistress Sue Goff said: "It is wonderful to share in the success of the girls as they receive their results. They work incredibly hard to gain their grades and are helped at every step by their dedicated teachers and supportive parents – it is a joint effort to get to this day and we can all enjoy this phenomenal success. We are delighted for the girls with a clean sweep of A* grades, including our VI Form scholars, but also for those who, over the two years of GCSE study, have exceeded their expectations. It is a day of real celebration for all our girls and their staff."

High achievers and individual successes to be noted at Alderley Edge School for Girls are: Heather McHale and Holly Smith with a clean sweep of 11 A* grades, Emelia Edie, Zoe Smith and Rebecca Snelson with 8A* and 3A grades each, Emily Blunt with 7A* and 4A grades, Amy Houghton with 6A* and 5A grades, Noor Hamond with 6A* and 4A grades, Alex Raper and Lucy Lynch with 5A*s and 5A grades each.
