A Level joy for Alderley girls

Alderley Edge School for Girls are once again celebrating impressive A level results.

For the fourth year running girls achieved a 100% pass rate in all subjects with 85% at A* to C and one third of all passes at A* and A grades.

Headmistress Sue Goff said "We believe that a number of factors have contributed to the success of our girls - the pupils themselves, the support of their parents and the dedication of our teachers.

"Girls are given the opportunity to excel in many subjects which allow for individual choice and the pursuit of their chosen paths. They will be following a huge variety of courses at University from Medicine, Law, Economics, English Literature, Mathematics, Psychology, Pharmacology to Events Management, International Management, Deaf Studies, Marketing and Dental Therapy."

Amongst the high achievers is Natasha Carroll who, having gained 12A*s in her GCSEs, scored 2A*s and one A grade at A level. Natasha will be going to Newcastle University next term to study medicine.

Georgie Gough also achieved 2A*s and one A grade, Olivia Lonsdale one A* and 3A grades, Sophie Thomas 2A*s 1A and 1B grade, Charlotte Hook 1A* and 3A grades.

Twins Lucinda and Alice Woodhead, who both chose the same subjects for A level, also performed extremely well, scoring 3A grades, 2As and a B – however they will be going their separate ways for University, one will go to Leeds whilst the other has chosen Newcastle.

For the second year running the School scored highly at Cambridge Pre U English, the alternative to A levels. Jenny Metcalfe scored the top grade Distinction 1, the grade boundary for which is even higher than A* at A level. Alderley Edge School for Girls was proud to receive the honour of top school for Cambridge Pre U English from the Good Schools Guide last term.

"Staff were hard at work from 7.00am on results day to ensure that the girls received the support and help that they needed to confirm their university places and, after weeks of anxious waiting the girls were excited and keen to celebrate their success. We are sad to say goodbye to them but delighted that all their hard work, together with the dedication and motivation from their teachers, has produced such excellent and well-deserved results," said proud Headmistress, Sue Goff.

Achievements were high in all 23 of the subjects available to the girls, including both science and arts subjects: 100% Grade A in Further Maths; 100% A* to C in Mathematics; 100% A* to B in French; 100% A* to A in Art; 63% A* to A in Geography and 57% A* or A in Chemistry.

Update: Cheshire East have released figures for the areas 1,620 students who received their A Level results today.

With one school's results still to be confirmed, projections are that students will surpass last year's results, recording a provisional 98.1% pass rate.

Over 25% of all students achieved grades A* to A, a 2% increase on last year, whilst 54% of all students achieved an A* to B grade which represents an increase of 1% compared to last year.

Provisional figures also show that Cheshire East's A-level students achieved an average point score of 747, an increase of last year's average of 716.
