Life is sweet for Judy O'Brien, who is bringing the taste of yesteryear to Alderley Edge by opening a traditional confectionary store.
Judy, a former pupil of Mount Carmel who lives in Wilmslow, will open Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe next month in the building previously occupied by Hi Ho Silver.
Having previously been a florist and ICT teacher, Judy comes from a family of retailers and has grasped the opportunity to turn her sweet tooth into a new business venture.
Growing up, her parents owned a bespoke chocolate shop in Wilmslow and a confectioners in Alderley Edge during the 1950s and 60s. Her father also developed his own brand of toffee as well as the prototype of the treat now known as the walnut whip, so the confectionary trade runs in the family.
Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe will open at 10 am on Friday 2nd September at 14 London Road. The opening will be a red carpet affair with a vintage van, Dazzle the Clown and a children's competition.
Judy said "I'm really looking forward to bringing Mr Simms to Alderley Edge. My fondest childhood memories are from visiting my parent's sweet shop, trying all the new flavours of sweets and goodies, so I'm thrilled to be able to offer the same experience to shoppers once again.
"It is my intention to offer something extra to the local community. For instance, I plan to offer a goodies delivery service to local Nursing Homes and involve schools in competitions, talks on the shopping experience of yesteryear as well as invite local schools to bring their choirs or musicians to perform at the shop. We will also be hosting special evenings such as chocolate, liquorice and fudge tasting evenings!"
"The store will fit in beautifully with the surrounding shops in the village. It's a great opportunity for us to bring something new and exciting to Alderley's high street and coax out the inner child in everyone!"
