A breastfeeding support group is being set up for new mums in Alderley Edge.
The group has been organised by Claire Bisaro, a local mum with two daughters who has lived in Alderley Edge for 5 years.
Claire, 45, is passionate about infant development and a qualified breastfeeding counsellor who runs support groups in Manchester and Macclesfield.
Claire also trained in South Africa at the International Association of Infant Massage and has been an instructor for 9 years, teaching baby massage classes at local children's centres, in private groups and on a one-to-one basis.
She told me "There is a lot of pressure on mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first 6 months of life due to the incredible health and bonding benefits, but there is very little support in the community to help mothers achieve a successful breastfeeding relationship.
"There are no breastfeeding support groups in our local community so mothers currently have to travel to other towns. I often receive requests from mothers to make home visits, so setting up a local group will make it easier for me to see everyone on one day. The idea is that the mothers can then start to support each other through my informal meetings.
"The support group will enable people to meet other local mums, learn about different breastfeeding topics and share mothering experiences, support and information in a less clinical environment - over a cup of tea with someone who understands."
The breastfeeding group is free and will run every Tuesday from 9.30am until 11am during term time only. Places will be limited so please email Claire or call her on 07952 810 350 to confirm attendance.
