First Christmas market a success

The first Christmas Market and Fair at Alderley Edge Cricket Club was a big success on Sunday with nearly 1000 people attending the event.

The marquee was filled with 45 stalls selling all sorts of festive foods and gifts and entertainment was provided by a fair ground, Santa's Grotto, hog roast, gluvine and a raffle was held to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice.

The event was organised by Emma Bolton, owner of The Lavender Tree, John Berry, Manager of Alderley Edge Cricket Club, and Keith Lowe who is Chairman of Alderley Edge Festival - they are also the team behind the summer fete which has been held at the Cricket Club for the past two years.

Emma said "We felt that it was a great community event for all the family to enjoy. All of the stall holders had some great feed back, which is great for them as small businesses and they all had a very busy day.

"The Ryleys Choir sang for us at the end of the day and everyone joined in which was lovely. We set off the Chinese lanterns about 5.30 which was a brilliant end to the day."

The final amount of money raised for East Cheshire Hospice will be confirmed at the end of the week.
