Alderley Edge Businesswoman Susan Clarke is one of eleven outstanding Chartered Managers in contention for the overall Chartered Manager of the Year title. All of whom are winners, having come top in the regions and countries where they live and work, and represent a wide range of industries and sectors.

Susan Clarke, a business relationship manager at AstraZeneca, has already won the North West award and is now in the running for the prestigious national title which is organised by the Chartered Management Institute(CMI).

Susan said: "I have been a CMI member for years. When the Chartered Manager scheme was announced it seemed like a logical step to maintain the skills I had gained through previous management studies.

"I have always found people management quite difficult because there is such a wide range of skills needed to do it effectively. The Chartered Manager scheme has reassured me that the standards I bring to the role are appropriate, and the continuous self-development element also means I am up-to-date with the right tools, techniques and approaches to good management.

"The Chartered Manager scheme is so important because management affects so many people on a daily basis, so it needs to be right. Obviously good management makes a difference to the business and the bottom-line, in terms of productivity and retention rates, but it can also help to improve people's lives. I think most people have personally experienced both good and poor management and understand how that can have an impact on performance. From what I've learnt I hope to manage my team well and show them good, positive examples of management and leadership."

The CIM have received a great response to the 2010 Chartered Manager of the Year competition. The public voting is now closed, with over 16,000 votes having been counted. The winner will be announced at the CMI National Conference on 14th October at the Royal Garden Hotel in London.
