Award winner sings for spire

Award-winning singer and songwriter Bruce Davies will appear in concert on Friday July 2nd with Sotto Voce…the friends who love to sing together.

Bruce Davies first performed with Sotto Voce at Alderley Edge Methodist Church in March 2003 when the concert was a sell-out, this year it is hoped the event will be a major fundraiser for their ongoing “Time for the Future” Spire Appeal.

As well as performing his own songs, Bruce draws on the best of Scotland’s song repertoire and the songs of his songwriting heroes and friends in a programme that goes well beyond what is normally regarded as folk music.

He celebrated 25 years as a full time performer last year and as a singer, guitarist and songwriter he has performed all over the UK and on 26 tours in the USA. Averaging almost 200 performances a year, he has performed in many prestigious venues, including The United Nations, New York; Bluebird Café, Nashville; Nigerian National Theatre, Lagos and the Co-operative Hall.

The audience at Alderley Edge methodist Church can expect to hear music from all six of his currently available CDs, including the recently released “Then & Now”, which is a collection of popular well known songs along with Bruce’s own compositions.

Bruce considers it a great pleasure to work with other artists and he is delighted on this occasion to be sharing the spotlight with one of England's premier singing groups Sotto Voce - a group of friends based in the North West who have been singing together since 2000. The members of which are all accomplished musicians with extensive experience in the region’s best choirs.

Proceeds from this concert will go to the 'Time for the Future' Spire Appeal, which is raising funds to enable the church spire and clock, which have become victims of serious corrosion, to be removed, restored and rebuilt.

Jean Walker from Alderley Edge Methodist Church said "Our 'Time for the Future' Spire Appeal is now entering phase two. We are currently awaiting a decision from English Heritage, after which work will commence on the Spire, sometime later this year."

English Heritage has recognised the importance of the Alderley Edge Methodist Church as a community resource, having awarded a grant of £323,000 towards the work, leaving the Church itself to find the remainder of the cost through major fundraising initiatives.

The concert will be held at Alderley Edge Methodist Church on Chapel Road in Alderley Edge on Friday 2nd July at 7.30 pm. Further information and tickets are available from the church office on 01625 586713 or from Jean on 01625 584410. Minimum donation of £10.
