Councillors of Nether Alderley Parish Council were joined by over 60 guests recently, including local MP Esther McVey, to celebrate the reopening of the Village Hall following its recent refurbishment.
The Grade II* listed Hall, which was gifted to the Parish Council over 100 years ago by the then Lord Stanley, with a caveat that it cannot be sold and that they retain responsibility for its upkeep and maintenance.
The major programme of remedial work, some of which was structural, included repairs to the roof, replacement of rotten timbers and strengthening of the first floor timbers. Additionally, much needed disabled access has been provided, by harmonising floor levels, the dilapidated toilet facilities have been replaced along with the provision of disabled toilets and baby changing facilities and the 1970s heating system with underfloor heating has been replaced with underfloor heating.
Work, which started on the site in June last year and was completed in February, was funded through a combination of S106 funds from the redevelopment of Alderley Park, donations, grant funding, income from hire of the hall and a loan.
Lesley Gleave, Chair of Nether Alderley Parish Council said "The work we have undertaken means we now have a fantastic community asset, accessible to all and of which we are very proud.
"Since re-opening we have hit the ground running, welcoming back many local groups and attracting new and diverse users, which will undoubtably enable us to secure the future of the hall for our growing parish."
