A 10-year-old boy from Alderley Edge won the silver medal at the National Windsurfing Championships held at Rutland Waters, Leicestershire, in very windy conditions at the weekend.
Ted Jones, who missed out on the Gold by 0.5 points in Fleet 3.5m, previously won gold at the Northern and Midlands Regionals event held in Hollingworth earlier this month and is now headed to the European Championships, which will be held in Rome in April 2025, as a member of the Great Britain team.
His achievement is even more impressive given that Ted only started windsurfing three months ago, training at the Debdale Outdoor Centre in Gorton three times a week.
His mother Sunita said "He has fantastic potential given that he has already achieved so much in such a short time."
Ted told alderleyedge.com "I love the way it feels to tackle the wind and blast through the water. When I am on my board, there is a tingling that starts from the bottom of my feet and goes through my body all the way to my brain and makes it happy. I want to see how far I can go in the Competitions and onto bigger and bigger sails as I get taller, bigger and stronger.
"I am really looking forward to Winter training to prepare for the European Championships in Rome, in April 2025 and will be proud to be a part of team GB. I am studying Italian this year at School and it will be fun to actually have the opportunity to try and speak the language in Italy. My coach Mr Martin Ware is very supportive and is wonderful with me."
