Awards for village's most beautiful gardens

For the second year running the The Village Enhancement Competition has been limited to residential displays only as the pandemic has affected local businesses and hospitality venues.

With the absence of the Village Show, normally held at the end of August in the Festival Hall, organisers have also been unable to applaud the winners at a prize giving ceremony.

Councillor Mike Dudley-Jones said "Our winner, runner up and highly commended displays are a great credit to their owners. Truly, beautiful gardens."

The winner of The Shell Trophy this year was Debra and her family on Marlborough Avenue.

Mike commented "The judges opted for this stunning contemporary garden design which sets off the house perfectly. A
garden that looks truly wonderful not only in the sun but on a rainy day too!"

The runners up this year are Peter and Jean Smallwood on Windermere Drive.

Mike said "Now this garden cannot be called 'minimalist' in any way! A riot of colour and hard work. Wonderful! It should be said that Peter and Jean were highly commended in 2019 so an ongoing success story!

The judges also award a highly commended category each year and this year's award goes to the Abell family on Moss Lane.

Mike added "There are some truly stunning front gardens in the Village; a joy to see. Added to these we have the hard work put in by the Alderley In Bloom Group of volunteers who have done a wonderful job in ensuring the Village looks well. The sunflowers in the Railings planters are a particular triumph!"
