Alderley mark season mid-point with win at Timperley

26th June

Alderley Edge First XI reached the half way stage of the season on Saturday with a convincing win over Timperley in the Cheshire County Premier League.

Winning the toss and bowling first, Alderley controlled the game from the outset with 4 early wickets for Chris Sanders and 2 for Richard Wilkinson leaving Timperley reeling on 47-7. A fine innings of 50 from young number 4 Muhammed Rizvi proved the only telling resistance from the top order, but a partnership of 50 for the 8th wicket with Chris Page, who struck 20 not out, and 16 from number 10 Chris McCarthy helped to give some respectability to the Timperley card.

The hosts were bowled out for 135 in the 41st over, Alan Day picking up 2-9 to close things out for the Alderley attack. Alderley's openers Sam Perry and Ed Foster looked assured in response, compiling a stand of 92 before Foster was dismissed for 40 with Perry continuing his fine form with the bat to take Alderley home with an unbeaten 72 to claim victory by 8 wickets, the chase completed in just 23 overs.

The victory on Saturday in the 55 over format came hot on the heels of Alderley's qualification for the T20 Finals Day in July with victory over Brooklands at the Quarter Final stage on Thursday evening. Winning the toss and batting first Alderley's top three all cashed in with Sam Perry hitting 56 from 28 balls, Ed Fluck 33 from 21 and Ed Foster 24 from 25.

After setting a good platform at 137-3, Chris Hart's spell of 4-32 helped to slow things slightly for the hosts with Alderley eventually closing on a strong 187-8. Contributions from all Alderley's bowlers helped to prevent any momentum from the Brooklands order, reducing them to 30-5 in the initial stages from which the hosts never recovered, 21 from wicketkeeper Daniel O'Gorman proving the only highlight. Will Valentine's 3-24 and 2-13 from Richard Wilkinson helped Alderley to wrap up victory by 93 runs and advance to Finals Day which will be held at Chester Boughton Hall on Sunday 11th July.

Alderley's Second XI drew their fixture with Macclesfield at Moss Lane on Saturday after the visitors reached 258-5 on the back of 101 from opener Chris France and supporting contributions from number 3 Josh Towne (43) and wicketkeeper Thomas Carter at no.5 (47 not out), Sam Woolf picking up 2-47 for the home side. A fine innings of 104 from number 3 Andy Kennedy kept Alderley in the hunt in the second innings, well supported by Ashray Bhampidipati's 51 from number 5 but when both were dismissed within an over of one another with the score on 207-5, the remaining runs proved too stiff a chase but Alderley's tail held out for 7 points with the hosts closing on 215-9.

On Sunday Alderley's Third XI fell to a 5 wicket defeat to Nantwich at Moss Lane. After being asked to bat first the hosts made 182 with skipper Calum Wilson hitting 60 from the top of the order and Josh Chalk compiling a half century from number 6. In reply Nantwich's number 3 Sam Cork hit an unbeaten 75 along with 59 from number 4 Freddy Woodfine to seal victory for the visitors, Ashray Bhampidipati taking 2-35 for Alderley in a losing cause.
