Couple celebrate 60th wedding anniversary virtually

Alderley Edge resident Jean Morris and her husband Eric virtually celebrated their Diamond wedding anniversary on 11th February.

Jean and Eric celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss via Zoom, with staff at Brookview care home arranging for them both to enjoy a glass of pink champagne and receive matching helium balloons and cards.

Jean also received a celebratory cake, staff had decorated her room and arranged for Jean and Eric's children, Colin, Dianne, Robert and Lyndsey, and their grandchildren to dial in for the virtual celebration.

Commenting on the milestone anniversary celebrations, Jean said: "I feel very lucky to have been made such a fuss of and I appreciate the staff here at Brookview going above and beyond to make it a special day for the both of us. It's been a wonderful 60 years being married to Eric and it was lovely to celebrate with him and my family."

Jean and Eric met in 1958 when Jean was just 15 years old, through a mutual friend. They both lived in Leek and after Eric asking to walk Jean home one evening, the romance blossomed from there. The couple married in 1961 on a snowy winter's day and went on to have five children, and now have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

When asked the secret to a long and happy marriage, Jean said: "In marriage you have to make the best of it and it's about give and take. As long as you can laugh with each other and talk there is happiness."
