Parent power

Although many schools across the area remain closed, Alderley Edge Primary school managed to open this morning thanks to a group of parents who turned up following a request from Chris Perry (headteacher) and Graham Tyson (Chair of Governors) asking for assistance to clear the paths around school and across the playground to make it safe for the children.

A group of mums and dads turned up with shovels and spades and spent a few hours creating paths and walkways through the snow and ice, spurred on by hot coffee from the school. We are not sure though if all the children appreciated it - we think many would have preferred another day off!

Pictures are some of the volunteers.

The thing is, unless you clear the ground 100% and put rock salt on top you can end up making is worse than it was.
It's best not to try to clear the playground area, just do the paths to and from the school.

Hi Jon,

Thats what we did, we cleared only the paths to and from school and a safe pathway across to each building. Once we cleared an area we laid down Rock salt.

I woz there and the School re-opened.

Cheers
