Providing conditions do not deteriorate overnight some of the local schools are planning to reopen tomorrow, Thursday 7th January.

Alderley Edge, Mottram and Lindow Primary schools along with The Ryleys have all confirmed they intend to open whilst Nether Alderley Primary School and Alderley Edge School for Girls have announced that they will be closed so their pupils will enjoy another day of extended holiday.

The snow is now becoming mainly confined to the south but the Met Office have issued a warning about widespread ice across the region and the North West Ambulance Service continues to urge people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Director of Emergency Services, Derek Cartwright said: “Although we are no longer operating at major incident status, all non-emergency journeys into hospitals across the region have been cancelled for the next 48 hours. Patients will hear from local PCTs about the rescheduling of appointments."

Social Care staff in Cheshire East are continuing to work hard to ensure services are maintained to those in greatest need during the extreme weather and have announced that all existing customers have received a hot meal today.

However the authority is still appealing to residents to look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours to ensure they stay safe and warm during the cold spell and have sufficient food supplies.

Alderley Edge School for Girls are pleased to announce that school will re-open on Friday 8th January.

A spokesperson said "We realise that some pupils may have problems getting in to school and would ask parents to use their own judgement about the safety of roads around their homes before attempting to bring children to school."

Pupils who travel to school on buses run by Walkers Minibus Hire, Ringway Minibus Hire or Ken's of Congleton should contact the transport operators for the latest travel details.
