
An Alderley Edge resident has received an award for her dedication to Girlguiding.
Judy Povey, who has been involved in Girlguiding for over 50 years received an award from the High Sheriff of Cheshire in recognition of great valuable services to the community.
Claire Worth, Girlguiding Cheshire Border County Commissioner, said "Judy Povey has given tremendous dedication to Girlguiding Cheshire Border. Judy has been involved as a volunteer for over 50 years and has held many roles including District Commissioner for Alderley Edge and Division Commissioner for Capesthorne Division which includes Wilmslow, Knutsford, Handforth, Alderley Edge, Prestbury and the surrounding areas.
"Judy also works for us at a County Level where she co-ordinates all the DBS verifiers and also co-ordinates the long service awards for adult members. Judy has organised countless events for local guiding in Alderley Edge and Capesthorne Division from camps to days out.
"Always keen to make sure the girls are given every opportunity to develop and grow in their guiding experience."
The award evening at University of Chester was a celebration of volunteering and hosted by the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Kathy Cowell OBE DL, who is coming to the end of her term as High Sheriff.
The event was attended by lots of organisations and volunteers that the High Sheriff had come into contact with over her 12 months in office, to celebrate and thank volunteers for their work in their local community.
Amanda Spedding said "We are are delighted that Judy has been recognised for all her hard work and dedication to Girlguiding both in Alderley Edge District, in Capesthorne Division and in Cheshire Border."
