Last chance to run the 2017 Waters® Wilmslow Half Marathon

marathon

Final preparations are underway for the 2017 Waters® Wilmslow Half Marathon which brings together 4000 athletes along with thousands of support crew for this ever popular event.

The Waters® Wilmslow Half Marathon will be run on Sunday, 19th March, setting off from Wilmslow Rugby Club at 10.30am, and online entries are still available until Friday so there is still chance to sign up if you haven't already done so.

As always, the cream of the North West will be running in this prestigious event. Some like 2010 champion Andy Jones (Salford Harriers), Thomas Abyu (Salford Harriers) and three times lady champion Michelle-Ross Cope (City of Stoke) have used the event as a spring board to European, World or Commonwealth Games championships.

They will be joined by thousand of local runners who will be pounding the streets to support their chosen charities.

New for this year, pacemakers have been introduced, ranging from 1 hour 15 minutes through to 2 hours ten minutes.

Those who are running are advised to car share where possible and get to the start very early.

Nick Bishop said "Please arrive early on Sunday to allow sufficient time.

"There is a bag drop facility and toilets at Wilmslow Rugby Club. However, we are unable to use the car park at the Rugby Club. The groundsman has confirmed the ground is too boggy so, to avoid cars getting stuck, we are asking people park elsewhere. Runners should use the Waters car park (SK9 4AX) or car parks in Wilmslow town centre."

Nick added "As always, please be reminded that a closure will be in force on the day covering all roads in the Kings Road and Altrincham Road area, and on the course itself as it winds towards Mobberley before heading back to finish on Morley Road Wilmslow."

This year the chosen lead charity for the race is The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
