After feedback from last year's field who said they enjoyed the race so much they wanted more of it, Run North West, organisers of the Run the Alderley Edge Bypass, have confirmed that the distance of the 2017 event will be extended from 5 miles to 10k. The run, which supports the East Cheshire Hospice is scheduled for Sunday 2 July and is for all abilities.

The Bypass will be specially closed and the event promises a fast course with lovely views of the Cheshire countryside.

The story of the race's inception is intimately tied to the village's recent history: the Alderley Edge bypass opened in 2010 after decades of local campaigning to relieve Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley of the heavy through traffic, particularly at peak times. As a one-off, a 5-mile event was held to celebrate its completion.

After completing the original race, Run North West founder Andrew Whittingham believed the route to be ideal for running, and, when he decided to launch a company to organise races, the bypass seemed a great place to start. After negotiating with East Cheshire Council, permission was granted for a repeat of the 5-mile run and plans for Run the Bypass 2016 were set in motion.

The return of the 5-miler proved to have a big impact, with a turnout of over 900 runners. Taking into account feedback from the field, the race is now being extended to 10k by beginning the race off the bypass on Alderley road – the additional 1.2 miles are flat making it a quicker event than previously.

As part of Run North West's on going commitment to raising money for vital causes they are proud to work alongside East Cheshire Hospice for the Bypass 10k and Key 103's Cash for Kids for the November Wilmslow 10k. If you wish to take part in one of their events and wish to also raise money, you'll be offered the opportunity to sign up and raise funds when entering.

Entries for the Alderley Edge Bypass 10K are now open with a commemorate bespoke medal & t shirt awarded to every finisher. Run North West are also offering a discounted price for anyone who also registers for the November Wilmslow 10K of £35 in total. More information is available at www.runnorthwest.co.uk.
