A well-attended memorial service, led by the Reverend Ben Clowes, was held in the chapel in Mottram St Andrew on Sunday, 3rd July,to remember all those who gave their lives at the Somme - especially the two young men from the village.

Henry Slater, age 21 and John Frederick Waller, age 23 from Mottram St Andrew were killed in action and have no known resting place. Their names are however recorded on the Thiepval Memorial.

Parish councillor Bill Pilkington said "
The service was very moving and contained poems and readings by Olivia Hunter, the Mayor of Cheshire East, David Rutley, the Macclesfield MP, Angela Philpott, vice Chairman of the Parish Council, Pat Smith, Margaret Graham and Ian Wright from the local community."

The Act of Remembrance was led by Councillor Bill Pilkington with Karen Robinson of the Over Alderley Brass band sounding the last post and reveille on her bugle to denote the start and end of the two minutes silence.

A collection of £190 was made during the service for the Alderley Edge branch of the Royal British Legion who were in attendance.
