An inaugural Junior Art Festival will take place in Alderley Edge in November.
Alderley Edge Methodist Church is launching the competition to encourage painting, sculpture and writing by children attending primary schools and also to help raise funds to cover their running costs.
Stuart Kinsey, AEMC Treasurer, said "We hope it will raise the profile of Alderley Edge Methodist Church amongst families with school age children. The church is also still in need of income to cover running costs."
He added "The competition is open to children attending primary schools in the area with the approval of their teacher."
The competition will be open to three age groups: 4 to 7 years; 8 and 9 years and ages 10 and 11.
The three categories for entry will be painting, sculpture and handwriting (copying a draft appropriate to the age group). Only one entry will be accepted per child for each of the three categories and 1st and runner up prizes will be awarded in the form of gift vouchers in each age group and each section.
Rev Ben Clowes said: "What a fantastic opportunity for all those creative children within our schools to be celebrated, whether in painting, sculpture or handwriting. I'm glad I'm not a judge as I reckon it'll be a very hard task indeed!"
The last date for submitting applications forms at AEMC is Monday November 2nd, and the competition entries must be delivered to AEMC on Thursday November 5th.
The works will then be exhibited at Alderley Edge Methodist Church on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November with the prizes presented in the church at 2pm on the Saturday.
Full details and application forms will be available for schools in early October and on request from the Church office on 01625 586713 or via email.
