Leading concert pianist joined by his family for special Harvest celebration

McLachlan, Murray

Alderley Edge Methodist Church is hosting a special concert next week as part of their Harvest Festival celebrations.

On Sunday, 4th October, a short service of Holy Communion and Morning Worship will be followed by an afternoon concert featuring Murray McLachlan and his family.

Murray McLachlan is Chair of the European Piano Teachers' Association and Head of Keyboard at Chetham's School of Music, as well as a senior Tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music. Additionally, he is the founder and Artistic Director of the Chethams international summer school and festival for pianists.

Dr. McLachlan will be performing with his wife Kathryn Page and three of his children, all of whom are students at Chethams. Kathryn is an accomplished soloist and chamber music pianist and will be performing Ravel's Mother Goose Suite with Murray as a duet.

Rose McLachlan, 13, will be performing pieces by Haydn and Chopin, Matthew McLachlan, 15, will perform works by Scriabin and Bartok and Callum McLachlan, 16, will perform repertoire from Liszt and Prokofiev.

Murray McLachlan will then conclude the programme with Debussy's 12 etudes.

Jean Walker explained "The piano at Alderley Edge Methodist Church is the property of Murray McLachlan, housed (very generously) with us for the use of both the church and the Alderley Edge Festival.

"Earlier this year the instrument was not performing to the standard we required, and Murray asked us to have it serviced, which was an expense we had not budgeted for. The concert on 4th October will, we hope, generate income to cover those costs, and promises to be a very special event."

Rev. Ben Clowes will lead a short service of Holy Communion at 9.45am followed by Morning Worship at 11am.

The concert will start at 3pm and admission will be £10, to include refreshments. For further information call 01625 586713 or email [email protected].
