Park patrols increased as syringes and gas canisters found

During a clean up in Alderley Edge Park last month, staff from Cheshire East Council discovered a number of syringes.

As a result, PCSO's Stanley and Fulton recently attended Alderley Edge School for Girls to educate the pupils on dangerous items that they may find in parks. The girls were given safety advice on what to do if they found such items, who to report it to and how.

The following day Cheshire Police received a call from one of those pupils who informed them they had found some nitrous oxide canisters (commonly known as laughing gas) in Beech Road Park. The canisters were removed by officers and Beech Road Park was placed on the police patrol plan for both May and June.

Inspector Alan Fairclough explained "Local children have found nitrous oxide canisters in the Park on Beech Road and there are a few youths who meet there in an evening. Police intend to visit the park as much as possible and deal with any persons seen or suspected of using drugs in the area positively."

The problem of nitrous oxide canisters has spread beyond the park to the derelict properties at The Old County Hotel and behind the Yesterdays property just off Wilmslow Road.
About a dozen youths are regularly visiting these properties and leaving evidence in the form. of canisters and burst balloons .
Good to have the support of PCSO Matt O'Brien who is keeping a close eye on the activity and those properties.
What a great shame these young youths do not channel their energy in to sport and positive activities .
