The Ryleys is celebrating a plethora of wins at this year's Alderley Edge Festival with five children and a choir winning in their music classes and 6 children winning their speech and drama classes. In total, 56 children came first to third; 32 children were placed first to third for speech and drama and 24 children received first to third places in the music classes.
The festival could not have started off better for the school with two choirs singing on Tuesday, with the Chamber choir placed first in the Year 6 and under class. The adjudicators commented that the choir were extremely well disciplined without the guidance of a conductor and that their rendition of Hush A Bye Mountain was outstanding.
By Thursday afternoon, the wins were coming through thick and fast with Harvey R. playing to an excellent standard in the brass solo, grade 2 & 3, taking first place in a class of 15. Sophie S. and Ethan C. were placed joint third in the same class, they both played extremely well.
In speech and drama, Oliver L-J was placed as Junior Thespian of the Year, which is a fantastic credit to the tremendous hard work he has put in. Due to the success The Ryleys had overall in the festival, Felicia S and Sophie K were asked to perform at the Finale Gala with their rendition of 'What Teachers Wear in Bed'. They completely brought the house down, while Honey Dickinson sang 'The Second Minute' which was just magical to listen to.
Musical Director at The Ryleys, Mrs Andrea McEneny said: "I couldn't be more proud of the children and the way they have performed this week, it has been a triumph! The standard has been extremely high this year and we have done so well to be placed so many times. I would like to thank the peripatetic staff for all of their hard work in preparing the children for this wonderful festival."
Speech and Drama Teacher, Mrs Annabel Anderson added: "I felt immensely proud of all of the children who took part, they all performed beautifully. A massive well done to everyone who took part!"
The ethos of the music and speech and drama departments at The Ryleys is to nurture every child, regardless of ability and to build upon the children's confidence through our excellent teaching in a calm and positive environment. Visiting professional music teachers, all Conservatoire trained, visit the school on a weekly basis where a vast range of instruments are offered to the children in Reception upwards.
