There was another great win for the Alderley Ladies 1st team this weekend, as they beat Prescot Ladies 1s 5-1. Edge started slowly, and took a while to find their rhythm but they did manage to take the lead through Lily Wolstenholme's great run and finish.
However, Prescot came back strongly, and scored from a penalty corner to equalise. Edge then settled down and began to assert some authority on the game. After a string of chances, Alderley won a penalty corner which Anna Perry deflected in from Sarah Jackson's shot. This meant the score was 2-1 at halftime.
Edge were much the better side in the second half, playing some really nice hockey and creating good chances. Lily Wolstenholme took advantage of some good possession play and scored a great reverse stick goal. Anna Perry then scored her second as well, again deflecting in a short corner, this time from Imogen Walker's shot. Lily Wolstenholme wrapped the game up near the end with a fierce drive into the goal which completed her hat-trick.
The weekend also saw a win for the Alderley Ladies 2nd team, who beat Knutsford Ladies 1st team 1-0. The first half saw both teams have spells of possession, but Alderley were the ones able to make their pressure pay when Judith Offer finished well from a smooth break. The second half continued in the same vein, with both teams having chances but both defences remained resolute and Edge recorded a 1-0 victory.
There was defeat for the Edge Ladies 3s, who lost 2-0 to a strong Triton Ladies 1st team. Both teams had good passing spells in midfield, but it was Triton who were able to convert their chances, scoring two neat goals from penalty corners.
The Alderley Ladies 4th team were more successful against Triton, beating their 2nd team 5-0. Edge were on top right from the off with Ellie Ward netting from a penalty corner and Faye Beaument finishing well to put Alderley 2-0 up within the first five minutes. Ellie Ward then scored again from a penalty corner before Emily Short and Mikala James finished neatly to give Edge a well-deserved win.
Due to the freezing weather conditions, the Ladies 6th team match was postponed.
