Harvest Festival to help feed starving children

Alderley Edge Methodist Church is hosting its Harvest Festival this weekend to help raise money for a children's charity.

The service will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday, 4th October, featuring a performance from the United Christian Singers. The choir, which is made up of up to 90 singers from the Manchester area and represents a wide range of Christian denominations, will present Brian Hoare's musical 'New Creation'.

All proceeds from the event will go to Mary's Meals.

Church Secretary Judy Povey said, "This is a charity we support as the work it does to feed children living in some of the poorest countries in the world is outstanding. Its mission is that by giving a child a meal when at school, it feeds the body and therefore the brain, energises the child and enables them to learn. Education helps lift people out of poverty and changes lives.

"Presently, Mary's Meals feeds 923,572 children each year and their objective is to reach the 1,000,000 mark. To feed a child for 12 months costs £12.20p and our aim this Harvest is to try to help the charity move towards their target.''

Judy added "Come along, enjoy 'New Creation' and help another child receive food and education via Mary's Meals."
