Police are urging shoppers and businesses to be alert following an increase in reports of fake notes being used in the area.
Over the last few weeks there have been a number of incidents in Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, and Handforth involving counterfeit currency.
A police spokesperson said "The notes tend to be £10 and £20 and are easy to mistake for the real thing.
"We would ask everyone to be vigilant and check any notes that you have or have been given.
"If anyone finds a note that they suspect to be counterfeit please hand it in to the local bank or Police Station. It is important to note however that it is an offence to knowingly use one of these counterfeit notes in exchange for goods or services."
If anyone has any information that would assist Police in respect to this matter please call 101, alternatively if you wish to remain anonymous then call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
