Queen and princesses to lead May Fair parade

FeatureMay Fair Queen & Princesses 2014 006

A caring 11-year-old girl from Alderley Edge has been selected to be this year's May Fair Queen.

For the second year running local residents were invited to nominate children and Lucy Peers was selected as the lucky winner, having been nominated by one of our readers for her empathy and caring attitude towards other people.

Lucy attends Alderley Edge School for Girls and until recently she was a member of 5th Alderley Edge Brownies, having stayed on after her 10th birthday as she had so much fun.

Lucy's mother Carolyn said "As a family we have enjoyed going to the Alderley Edge May Fair in previous years and we are all excited that this year Lucy will be opening it as the Rose Queen."

Lucy will be accompanied by two princesses: Tess Foster aged 8 and Maggie Foster aged 6, who attend Ashdene Primary School.

Christine Munro, organiser of the Alderley Edge May Fair, said "Lucy was nominated for her caring attitude and it was lovely to meet such a sweet young lady. Our little princesses are two charming, fun loving little girls and will be great supports for Lucy.

"We decided last year we would like to give one young lady a special day and we wanted someone who was helpful and caring so we could say thank you to them for thinking of others before themselves.

"We think we have found a very special little girl and two lovely little princesses to accompany her, and we hope we can give them an amazing day they will always remember."

Lucy, Tess and Maggie will travel in a horse drawn carriage in the parade, from Chorley Hall Lane sports field through the village and into the park, where Lucy will open the 2014 May Fair.

They will then help with the judging of the fancy dress competition and then the town crier competition, which is being organised by the Nantwich Town Crier, John Parsons.

Kath Foster said "Tess and Maggie cannot wait to be the May Fair princesses. Little Big Heads are doing their hair and make up and lending them the dresses and they are busy practising their royal waves!"

The fourth Alderley Edge May Fair will take place on Saturday 17th May from 11am to 5pm - so keep the date free as it is sure to be another fantastic day for the community.

The final committee meeting before the May Fair will be held on Thursday 8th May at 7.30pm at The Trafford Arms Hotel.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the Alderley Edge May Fair is welcome to attend the meeting, email Geoff Hall or call him on 01625 581321.
