Update regarding suspicious activity in Alderley Edge

Police have identified the man who was reported to be acting suspiciously outside Ryleys School this morning (Friday 31 January).

Shortly after publishing an article about the incident on alderleyedge.com I was contacted by one of our regular readers who said "I have this awful feeling that I was the "suspicious man" on Ryleys Lane this morning. I would like to speak to the appropriate police to re-assure them that I am in no way suspicious."

He has since spoken to the police who can confirm there is no cause for concern. Schools are being advised of the outcome.

Insp Sue Mills said: "Police take all reports of suspicious activity seriously and always advise it is reported to police. I would like to reassure residents that following our enquiries we have established there was nothing untoward in this instance."

Interesting to note that the Macclesfield Express (website) has published this story but NOT the update, describing the subject as a 'Masked Man'. Scaremongering and trying to sell newspapers.
