Church spruced up for Christmas Tree Festival

The 5th Alderley Edge Christmas Tree Festival opened today with a lunchtime concert featuring featuring flutist Helen Wilson and harpist Elfair Dyer.

Alderley Edge Methodist Church looks absolutely stunning, decorated with 55 Christmas trees of all different shapes, sizes and colours. They have been donated by local organisations, schools and businesses who have put a great deal of effort into decorating them.

The 2013 Christmas Tree Festival, which is in aid of the Church's Spire Appeal, is open from 10am until 4pm tomorrow (Saturday 7th December) and from 1.30pm to 3.00pm on Sunday, 8th December.

A whole programme of events has been put together for the weekend, including a brass band concert by Marsden Silver Prize Band on Saturday evening and performances from the church music group Inspire and Chelford Handbell Ringers.

Visitors can view the beautiful display of trees, enjoy light refreshments and browse a selection of stalls until 3pm on Sunday when the festival will come to a close with Carols Round the Tree.

Judy Povey, church secretary, commented "The Christmas Tree Festival has become something of an annual event, which it is hoped will attract visitors from the local community and further afield as they come to view the array of Christmas Trees contributed and decorated by so many organisations and businesses from around the area.

"Alongside the trees, and the atmosphere created by the stalls, refreshments, music etc., there is time to sit and reflect on what Christmas truly means, perhaps adding a thought of Christmas past onto the Memory Tree, or remembering a loved one sadly no longer alive."

Entrance to the festival is £3. For more information on the Alderley Edge Christmas Tree Festival see our events calendar or call the church Office on 01625 586713.
