Masked men raid village supermarket

A gang of thieves broke into a supermarket in the village centre stealing cigarettes and a laptop.

Waitrose was raided at approximately 1.25am on Monday, 2nd September, by four big men who were wearing masks.

They broke in through the rear door of the store, by-passed the alarm system and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The offenders, who were all described as being very large men, were captured on CCTV scouting the property at about 9pm on Sunday 1st September.

A spokesperson for CID said "During the early hours of yesterday morning unknown offenders forced entry into Waitrose. They stole a quantity of cigarettes and a laptop and then made off."

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact PC Humpage at Wilmslow CID on 101.

The wire fencing 'tween park and railway...opposire rear of Waitrose...was cut through at about the same time. Could that have been an escape route?...to avoid CCTV, by cutting thro' the park?

Further to the above... being a public-spirited chap I decided to pass on the 'escape-route-scenario to the 'boys in blue', at Wilmlow Police Station...after 3.30 minutes of music and being told that Cheshire Police were experiencing a high volume of calls but that my call was important to them (was it Tesco I got by accident? No, 'cos Tesce answer quicker!) I gave up... just as well I wasn't trying to report a rape or GBH!... when did you last see a copper on foot patrol in the village?...when did you last see a police car stop in the village?
When we elected a 'Police and Crime Commissioner' I hoped that matters would improve (are you reading this John? where are our 500 special constables?).
Have you seen the Police Inspector lady around the village?
Please excuse me, I'm off to find a brick wall to beat my head against!

Duncan, when I contacted you about the robbery I assumed 2 things.
1) the council, if the rails had been cut not just broken as they said, would mention it to Railtrack ????
2) The police, if it was a burglary through the back and no CCTV showing them fleeing then as it backs onto the railway did they not look at it?
As for no one answering, this is a common problem found by residents & so we should ask the Chief Constable to come and talk to the PC, and we can report back.

Hi Mel.,
the Council (CE) Park Officers told me that they would indeed take the matter up with the railway people. As to what the police looked at? Dunno.
