GCSE success for Alderley girls

Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating some impressive GCSE results today with almost a quarter of all candidates hitting the top A* grade this year and over 50% of all results being awarded at A*/ A grade.

The Latin, Drama and Music departments were celebrating 100% A* and A grade success with other departments also excelling with a high percentage of A* and A grades – Chemistry with 95%, Biology with 89%, ICT with 86%, Physics with 84% and Art with 78%.

High achievers included Miriam Beck and Gemma Francis who both achieved 10 A* grades. Gabriella Horan, Rebecca Bennett, Phoebe Lloyd and Annabelle Lonsdale all gained 9 A* grades, Lydia Maddocks and Amy Powell both scored 8 A* grades with Zoe Bennett and Jenny Eden achieving 7 A*s.

Rebecca Bennett, Gemma Francis and Amy Powell also sat the Additional Maths paper and all achieved the top grade.

The school's Year 10 girls also did extremely well in the demanding IGCSE examinations which were taken a year early - Tatiana Wilson scored 3 A* grades in English Language, English Literature and Music. Hayleigh McCullough also achieved 2 A* grades for her English papers and a further 6 girls scored A* and A for the two English papers.

Mrs Susan Goff, Headmistress at the school expressed her delight and pride at the girl's achievements, paying tribute the hard work of both the students and their teachers.

She commented, "It is an excellent achievement and one which bodes very well for our new Lower Sixth cohort, which will be the largest in the school's history."

Mrs Jackie Waterhouse, Head of Upper School enthused, "Despite media reports about significant turbulence in this year's GCSE results, our girls have yet again gained excellent results across the board and have an impressive set of results taking them through to Sixth Form study and beyond."
