Cheshire Police are appealing for residents to keep their homes and cars secure during the current warm weather when there is more temptation to leave doors and windows open or unlocked.
Homeowners are being urged to stay security conscious and keep their houses secure − even when they are at home.
Assistant Chief Constable Ruth Purdie said: "During the spells of warm weather, there tends to be an increase in the number of opportunist 'sneak in′ burglaries − where criminals take advantage of residents who leave windows open, patios unlocked and doors ajar.
"It is vitally important to have an awareness of your personal and home security so criminals don′t exploit the opportunity of an open door or window to enter your home and steal your belongings.
"During hot weather, some drivers aren′t as careful to secure their cars - they may leave windows or a sunroof open which makes it very easy for opportunist thieves to steal valuable items such as mobile phones, handbags or sat-nav systems. When leaving your car, take a minute to double check it is fully secure."
Residents are being urged to make sure that all windows are closed and locked, even when you are at home or in the garden, keep all valuables out of the line of sight of prying eyes and not to leave valuables or equipment on display in your car.
