New research has revealed that Alderley Edge is the 8th most affluent small town or village in the UK.

According to research from WealthInsight between 300 and 350 dollar millionaires live in the village.

Eight out of the top ten wealthiest towns and villages are located within 30 miles of London, with only Hale and Alderley Edge outside of the South East.

Windsor tops the list with over 850 dollar millionaires, followed by Weybridge with over 800.

However, according to these figures, if you look at the percentage of the population that are dollar millionaires then Alderley Edge comes out top with over 6.8%.

WealthInsight analyst Andrew Amolis said "Towns in the London commuter belt dominate the top 10, although it is interesting to see that a couple of small towns around Manchester also make the list. This reflects the affluent nature of the Cheshire area."

He added "Alderley Edge is considered to be the most affluent town in the North West, particularly Whitebarn Road which is one of the most expensive streets in the UK."

Henley was identified as the fastest growing town on the list with millionaire numbers there rising by 25% over the period between 2007 and 2012. This compares with general UK millionaire numbers which declined by 9% over that period.

Towns that narrowly missed out on the top 10 included: Burford, Chipping Campden, Dartmouth, Ilkley, Leatherhead, Lyndhurst, Pangbourne, Ponteland, Virginia Water and Windermere. These towns each have over 200 millionaires.
