Park bench destroyed by fire

photo-2

A picnic bench which was installed in Alderley Edge Park last summer has been destroyed by fire.

Firefighters were called to the scene just before 10pm on Thursday, 2nd May, and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

Friends of the Park had the picnic bench installed opposite the children's enclosed play area in June last year, part of the funding for which came from an anonymous donor.

It was designed to be tough, vandal resistant, virtually maintenance free and a splinter proof alternative to timber.

PCSO Jim Newns is currently investigating this incident and anyone with any information should contact Wilmslow Police on 101.

Given the 'difficulty' of destroying a flame-proof structure, there must have been pre-meditation/planning. This is not some teenagers' prank gone wrong. This is criminal arson.
In the great scheme of things, a burnt park bench is not earth-shattering BUT don't arsonists always go on to 'bigger and better'?
So those who know the person/s who did this need to give them up to the police...next time it might be a house... a house with people inside?
If you know who it was, please don't show 'loyalty' to the moron/s.

There was an incident back in January where the RBS cash till and bench on the corner were vandalised.I reported it to Cheshire police the morning after the incident and stated there was a CCTV camera directly above so there should have been no problem identifying the culprits.
I followed up my complaint a week later to see what progress had been made.i was told nobody at Cheshire police had looked at the CCTV and they weren't going to as the property owners hadn't complained. So what chance have you got with that sort of attitude.
To me the police are as much of a problem as the scum.

So they don't log these incidents as crimes, no wonder the crime figures are down!
