Those of you that think that networking events only consist of very early breakfast meetings and nerve jangling 60 second presentations, now have an interesting local alternative.

Networking on the Edge has been taking place on the last Tuesday evening of every month since last July, when 16 local business people gathered in the private dining room of Grill on the Edge. Since then the event has gone from strength to strength and has been known to sell out the newly constructed 45 seat conservatory at the same venue.

So what is the format of the event? At 6pm people gather to enjoy their welcome drink and mix with their new business contacts. A little later, guests are invited to take their seat for dinner and enjoy sharing platters of their favourite starters. Then the only piece of formality of the evening takes place as guests are invited to switch places with other guests to allow you meet even more new contacts throughout the evening. Guests then order their main course from a specially created menu and continue their networking over dinner.

Alderley Edge business owner Carl Emery of bespoke tailors Harris & Howard said, "Unlike some events I've been to that required membership, regular attendance and compulsory referral of business leads, 'Networking on the Edge' is just a completely relaxed networking environment."

The event is normally finished for 8.30pm with many delegates deciding to join the informal group who wander down to the Botanist for continued networking.

Networking on the Edge was created by business group 'The Talk of Manchester'. Its Founder and Alderley Edge resident, Paul Kilroe said, "The format of our event, networking over a nice meal and a glass of wine at Grill on the Edge, has led to over 85% of those attending being the business owners/directors or decision makers. We are often cheekily referred to as the "Networking event only the Boss gets to go to."

Partner at Wilmslow based Chartered Accountant Afford Bond, Chris Monks said, "Too often you attend networking events and find they are full of business development people all selling to each other. This event is different as you are sat with people who can actually make a decision."

Alderley Edge resident and Stockbroker at Charles Stanley, John Boothman said, "It's great to get out and meet local business owners in a relaxed environment. A pleasant surprise has been the number of attendees from businesses further afield that join the event because their owners live locally."

Those booking at least 48 hours prior to the event receive their delegate list the evening prior to the event. A very useful tool to identify people you are particularly keen to talk to.

The Talk of Manchester also host events in Central Manchester, Bury and Hale.

Networking on the Edge takes place on the last Tuesday of every month, 6-8.30pm at Grill on the Edge, Alderley Edge and costs £28+vat. The next one being on Tuesday 30th April. For further details and to book click here.
