Having recently been made aware of a problem with their overnight security system, Panacea would like to apologise to residents who have been disturbed by the loud announcements during the night.

Cllr Joseph Bergin raised the issue at this week's Parish Council meeting. He told fellow councillors "On a non-busy night they have a sensor set up that if they detect you it issues an incredibly loud proclamation that this person is now entering a restricted area.

"It is quite anti-social, a dog or something will wander in at 4 o'clock in the morning and a big loud speaker announces that you've been spotted on CCTV please can you leave the area immediately.

"It's extremely loud, we're quite a long way away from it but we can hear it very clear. It's like being in Colditz."

I contacted Panacea to enquire about the security system and spoke with their Head of Security, Darrell Butterworth who told me they were not aware of the problems until Mr Higham, from next door, contacted them last week and as a result of this steps have been taken to address the problem.

Darrell Butterworth said "Panacea Alderley Edge has been recently undergoing some exciting refurbishment works to both the restaurant and bar, which has inevitably caused a degree of disruption to the surrounding area.

"It would appear that a feature of our overnight security system has been subject to a number of false activations as a result of the building works, which Panacea have been quick to identify and correct.

"We would like to apologise for any disturbances this may have caused to the local community and wish to reassure anyone effected that we will continue to do everything possible to preserve the peaceful integrity of the surrounding neighbourhood."
